Bhartiya Anuvad Parishad!

Who We Are

Bhartiya Anuvad Parishad (Translators’ Association of India) is India’s first voluntary society for the study and promotion of translation. Established in 1964, the Parishad was set up by Dr Gargi Gupta, renowned translator and academic, after she completed a Master’s in Journalism at Columbia University. Over the last fifty-five years, the Parishad has earned itself a rock solid reputation in the academic world. The mission of the organisation is to promote the study of translation as a theory and practice across the country through its courses, awards and recognitions and publications.

Inspired by Dr Gupta’s vision, a group of professors, academics and students from the modern Indian languages department at Delhi University have come together in search of a common platform to address their need to find a wider acceptability for their expertise in translation. It has been a pioneering project in bringing translation studies into focus.
